Manuel Otto, the German creator of the popular browser game Stick Run, has died at age 30 after allegedly taking his own life during a Twitch livestream.
Stick Run confirmed Otto’s death in a statement posted to social media on October 21. The game’s official account said it was aware of “a livestream on Twitch involving its creator and owner, Manuel Otto, in which he appeared to have taken his own life.”
The statement did not provide further details and asked people to respect the privacy of those involved. Stick Run also said Twitch had removed the livestream and associated video, while urging viewers not to spread unverified information or speculation.
Authorities confirm fatal fire took 30-year-old’s life
Local German outlets PNP and OVB reported that a 30-year-old person was found dead following a fire at an attic room in Breitbrunn am Chiemsee, Bavaria, on Tuesday evening. A neighbor noticed the fire and attempted to extinguish it, but the person inside had already died by the time help arrived.
Authorities have not publicly identified the person found at the scene. However, the reported age, location and timing correspond with the information released by Stick Run about Otto’s death.
Otto created Stick Run when he was 14. The free-to-play game launched on Facebook in 2010 before later arriving on mobile devices, and was reportedly played by more than 43 million people worldwide.
The game’s official account has asked anyone with relevant information to contact Stick Run or local law enforcement.
