Alveus Sanctuary recently shared sad news involving one of its arthropod residents, leaving fans of the sanctuary mourning another animal ambassador.

On August 30, 2026, the official X account of Alveus Sanctuary announced that Hank the Tank, also known as Mr. McTrain, had passed away. Hank was a millipede who had become familiar to viewers of the sanctuary through its online content and livestreams:

“Hank was a sweet, charismatic millipede that taught millions of people why his species matters while inspiring them to be less afraid of bugs. He likely passed of old age after living a life eating lots of zucchini (without the rind) at Alveus. He made such a big impact in so little time….Thank you for everything, Hank.”

Alveus Sanctuary is a nonprofit wildlife sanctuary and virtual education center in Texas founded by Maya Higa. The organization houses non-releasable animal ambassadors and uses 24/7 live cameras to allow people to watch the animals while learning about conservation and wildlife-related issues.

The sanctuary is home to a wide range of animals. Some of its residents include Winnie the Moo, a Red Angus cow, emus Stompy and Nolie, donkeys Serrano and Jalapeño, and several chickens, including the silkie Polly. The sanctuary also houses foxes, macaws, marmosets, and a serval.

Maya Higa Got Emotional as Alaska Marathon Came to an End

Higa started her Alaskan tour on Sunday, August 23, 2026, alongside FaZe Adapt. She had announced the trip a few days earlier as a “marathon IRL streams in ALASKA with @thefazeadapt,” following their earlier wildlife-focused trip to South Africa.

The Alaska trip was built around immersive, long-form nature and wildlife content. Maya and Adapt explored different parts of the state through helicopter views, boat tours, and guided wildlife encounters.

One of the main highlights was getting close to coastal brown bears as they fished for salmon in areas such as Katmai National Park.

As the four-day marathon reached its final moments, Maya and Adapt reflected on everything they had experienced during the trip. The emotional ending came after the fundraiser reached nearly $50,000 for the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center.
