Streamer Caroline Kwan has criticized people demanding prison time for Lindsay Clancy, arguing that discussions about mental health and personal responsibility can become inconsistent.

Kwan discussed the controversial case during her September 2, 2026, Twitch livestream, as the trial continued to draw attention across the US.

During her discussion, Kwan turned her attention to the public reaction to Clancy’s case. She criticized people who, in her view, are willing to recognize mental health struggles and other circumstances when discussing men but are less willing to extend the same consideration to women:

“We need to support mental health. Everybody struggles with mental health. Love to talk about it. Until it comes to a situation where they actually have to have any f***ing principles. Where they actually have to be consistent in believing that we should not, say, criminalize mental illness. Love to talk about the male loneliness epidemic, love to talk about men’s mental health, and yet, when it comes to women, when it comes to marginalized folks, nope.”

Caroline Kwan Claimed Prisons Hold More Mentally Ill People Than Hospitals

Kwan continued her discussion about mental health and criminal responsibility during her September 2, 2026, Twitch stream.

While discussing the Lindsay Clancy case, Kwan argued that society often judges people with mental health struggles harshly instead of considering the circumstances that may have influenced their actions.

She suggested that the criminal justice system can become a place where people with serious mental health conditions are punished rather than treated:

“There are more people with psychiatric disorders and mental illnesses in jails and prisons than there are in actual hospitals because of our system, where we criminalize mental illness and people who have untreated mental illness. When you go through the prison system, most of the time you’re not receiving adequate treatment. That means that those people are more likely to die by suicide while in custody. They are more likely to be in the revolving door.”

Kwan’s comments came as the trial of Lindsay Clancy remained unresolved. Clancy is accused of killing her three children in January 2023. She has acknowledged causing their deaths but has pleaded not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility, with her defense arguing that she was experiencing postpartum psychosis.

The case is currently at a critical stage. As of September 3, 2026, the jury had spent six days deliberating without reaching a unanimous verdict.
