TikToker Sydney Towle has died after battling cholangiocarcinoma, a rare, aggressive form of cancer for three years.
The popular TikToker, who had more than 1 million followers on the platform, had been battling the rare form of cancer for three years, regularly sharing updates about her treatment and making videos from the hospital.
Her death was confirmed on August 6 by her brother, Austin, and her mom, who said that Sydney had passed away on August 5. “An endless ray of sunshine. A daughter, sister, and friend to so many,” the video said.
“We just want to let you know that Syd went peacefully last night after an almost three-year-long battle with cholangiocarcinoma. She fought really hard and we’re so proud of her and we thank all of you for your support over the years,” Austin added.
In her last video from the hospital, which came on July 22, the 26-year-old showed the difference between how she looked before battling cancer and how she looked at that point.
She had also uploaded a video showing that her favorite band, Royal Otis, had dedicated a song to her at the end of July.
Fans pay tribute to Sydney Towle
Fans have taken to her old videos to post messages of support and their favorite memories of the popular content creator. “Sweet angel. Fly high. Praying for all who loved her. She is really something special,” actress Alyssa Milano said.
“I’ve never felt so deeply heartbroken for a loss of someone I’ve never met, what a beautiful soul syd was,” another added. “Today I mourn the loss of someone I’ve never met but adored so much,” commented another fan.
Some have also continued donating to Sydney’s GoFundMe, which was set up to actually benefit her mom, Elizabeth, and send her on a dream vacation. That fundraiser has hit close to $160,000 despite having a goal of $2500.
At the end of July, TikToker Rebecca Luna also passed away after battling a rare form of dementia.
Luna had medical assistance in dying after fighting young-onset Alzheimer’s for over a year.
