A five-week-old rescue kitten with mustache-like markings that make him look just like Super Mario is looking for a new home after being found alone and crying in Tipton.
The stray, now named Mario, was taken in by the RSPCA’s Birmingham Animal Centre and Hospital in Frankley Green and placed into foster care with Animal Care Assistant Chloe Sewell.
A boisterous match for his namesake
Sewell described him as a “typical boisterous, cheeky, mischievous little kitten,” with an energy level that lines up neatly with his Mushroom Kingdom name.
Because he was found without any littermates, he is still learning some manners. Staff say he loves “zoomies” but occasionally mistakes hands and feet for toys, not quite realizing his baby teeth are sharp yet.
Instagram: rspcabirminghamHe has also bonded closely with Sewell’s dog Henry during his time in foster care, and the RSPCA says he would do best in a home with a cat-savvy, tolerant dog to play with, or a family with children who can match his energy. “As far as Mario’s concerned, the more people for him to play with, the better,” Sewell said.
Mario’s search for a home comes as the RSPCA reports a 67% rise in multi-cat rescues, properties with 10 or more cats, over the past year. That surge, combined with peak kitten breeding season, has left local shelters under serious pressure to find space for animals like him.
The appeal also lines up with the RSPCA’s upcoming Stream for Every Kind campaign, encouraging gamers and streamers to raise funds for animals in need.
