On October 22, 2026, President Donald Trump shared his thoughts on U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar. He claimed she is hiding her real name from the public. He stated that her name is “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi,” and Trump also went after her brother, whom he called “Ahmed Nur Said Elmi.” The president then accused Omar of marrying her brother and having children with him. He wrote:

“It was just revealed that Ilhan Omar’s name is not Ilhan Omar, the one she used to get elected and sworn into Congress, but rather, it’s an entirely different name, Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, and that her last name is, incredibly, also the exact name of her brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, the person they said she married and had children with.”

After addressing the alleged marriage, Trump claimed that Omar used a fake name to be sworn into Congress and said she must resign. He wrote:

“When asked whether or not she married her brother, she said, ‘Not to my knowledge.’ In other words, she somehow didn’t know? Therefore, because she used a fake name to be sworn in, I assume she must IMMEDIATELY resign from Congress.”

Omar responded to Trump, saying he is “laundering right-wing conspiracy theories.” Calling him a “creep,” the congresswoman urged him to focus on what his VP’s real name is instead. She wrote:

“The p********* protection party’s president is laundering right-wing conspiracy theories through the most corrupt DOJ in American history. Whenever the news turns bad, this creep reaches for one name: mine. So let’s make it crystal clear. My name has always been Ilhan Omar. Maybe you should focus on what your VP’s real name is.”

In an interview with MS NOW, host Chris Hayes asked Ilhan Omar if she ever wanted to “tap out.” In response, the U.S. representative said it is her right to be a member of Congress despite the Republican Party’s attacks on her. She said:

“I think, like, the bigger satisfaction for them would be for me to be like, listen, I’m tired of all of you and I’m going to leave because they’ve always believed that someone of my background, of my faith shouldn’t be in Congress, shouldn’t have a position where they are influencing U.S. law… I know the president keeps saying, ‘She talks about the Constitution.’ In a country governed by our Constitution, I have a legal right to be a member of Congress, and I am honored.”

Omar posted a clip from the interview to her official X account, addressing what she described as Donald Trump’s attempt to intimidate her. She captioned the post:

“Trump’s goal is to intimidate me and get me to back down. That’s not going to happen. I will not be silenced, and I will not stop fighting for my constituents.”
