Author Stephen King took to social media to share his reactions about Elon Musk’s claims about the Democratic Party.
On Friday, October 30, 2026, Stephen King told Elon Musk he sounded like President Trump. The reply was posted on X, beneath a Musk post warning that Democrats would “end democracy in America” if they gain control. Four days out from the midterms, the novelist skipped the polling data and the policy argument and went straight for the punchline.
“Don’t be ridiculous. You sound like Trump. Next you’ll be saying ‘They’re eating the pets!’”
The joke points back to the September 2024 debate, when Donald Trump claimed Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, were eating cats and dogs. No credible evidence supported that claim, and it led to bomb threats against schools and city buildings in Springfield. The SpaceX CEO had amplified it himself, writing on X that September: “Apparently, people’s cats are being eaten.”

Stephen King Reacts to Elon Musk’s Claims About What Would Happen if Democrats Win the Election
A second post that day was aimed at James Talarico, the Democrat running for the Senate in Texas. The SpaceX CEO expressed concern about the future of democracy once candidates like Talarico win the election. However, the Democratic candidate expressed optimism for his hope to become a senator for those who cannot afford one.
“Talarico would abolish democracy in America and institute permanent one-party rule!”
The renowned author proceeded to joke about Elon Musk starting to sound like the president. He mentioned that he might joke about other crude things in the future to make a point. Voters go to the polls on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. King’s answer to that argument was fifteen words and a reference to a debate from two years earlier.
