Liberal commentator Harry Sisson recently shared his thoughts on Zohran Mamdani installing modern garbage bins to clear sidewalks. Recently, the New York mayor appeared at Garden Place in Brooklyn to launch the first of 700 garbage bin installations. In his speech, he said the bins would keep rats and rodents out and give residents cleaner access to the sidewalks.

Mamdani also said he wants to improve the lives of every New Yorker, stating:

“New Yorkers should not have to live surrounded by garbage… This initiative may not be about filling holes in our streets, but it captures exactly what pothole politics is all about. Using the power of city government to deliver material improvements to the lives of every New Yorker.”

The mayor also spoke about public health and economic well-being. He said “containerization” will lead to better sanitation for New Yorkers. Mamdani said:

“It’s also about protecting public health. It’s about strengthening our city’s economic well-being. And yes, believe it or not, it is also about housing. New Yorkers deserve homes without rats loitering on their doorstep or feasting in the basement… Containerization will allow us to deliver that across every corner of our city and will help us do so for years to come.”

Harry Sisson reacted to the news with a post on X, writing:

“We had a good run. Sharia law is here.”

Zohran Mamdani recently quoted a line from the TV show Avatar: The Last Airbender in a speech. The New York mayor announced a $35.7 million North End Recirculation Project aimed at reducing flooding and conserving drinking water. The system is reported to divert 132 million gallons of stormwater from sewers and conserve 175 million gallons of drinking water. Referring to a line from the show, he said:

“In season one, episode 16 of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender,’ Jeong Jeong of the Order of the White Lotus teaches us water brings healing and life. While we may lack the magic powers of waterbending here in New York City, incredible feats of engineering throughout our history have gotten us pretty close.”
