Netflix has built a reputation for critically acclaimed international thrillers, especially after the success of TV shows like Squid Game, Dark, and Alice in Borderland. It’s certainly not unusual for fans to wait several years between seasons of a Netflix thriller series; after all, viewers had a three-year gap between Squid Game Seasons 1 and 2, but one of its most popular international thrillers is officially making its comeback this week, with Season 4 of the hit show Lupin set to arrive on the platform on Friday, October 23, 2026.
Inspired by the fictional gentleman thief Arsène Lupin, Lupin Part 4 arrives three years after Part 3 and will bring Omar Sy’s Assane Diop back after he decides to turn himself in, continuing the series’ signature fast-paced, elaborate heists in a tense crime drama. Part 4 is set to be even bigger than its previous installments, as Assane faces his most complicated challenge yet.
Lupin Part 4 Release Date & Plot Summary, Explained
Part 4 kicks off with Assane still behind bars, determined to serve his sentence and keep his promise to his son by reuniting with their family in Senegal. However, his plans quickly unravel when a mysterious announcement signed by Lupin declares that several museums will be robbed simultaneously. The heists go ahead despite heightened security, and evidence appears to place Assane at one of the crime scenes. As a result, Assane must escape prison, work out who the copycat is, and clear his own name, with Lupin now putting his identity and freedom on the line.

All eight episodes of Lupin Part 4 will be released on Netflix on October 23, 2026. Omar Sy returns alongside cast members Ludivine Sagnier, Antoine Gouy, Soufiane Guerrab, Shirine Boutella, Théo Christine, and Laïka Blanc-Francard. The new installment picks up four years after the events of Part 3, even though the real-world gap between seasons is three years; the time jump explains why Assane’s circumstances have changed so drastically.
Lupin’s Three-Year Gap Between Part 3 and Part 4, Explained
A three-year wait isn’t unusual, but given that Lupin Parts 1 and 2 were released in 2021, and Part 3 was released two years later in 2023, many fans are wondering what the holdup is. The production timeline explains some of this: Part 3 premiered in October 2023, but Netflix didn’t officially announce Part 4 until May 2025, when it confirmed that production was underway for eight new episodes. Reports and indications suggested more Lupin was in development before then, but fans had no firm confirmation of a new installment for well over a year.
Part 4’s eventual announcement was welcome news, although it meant that Lupin had already spent a substantial amount of time away from the platform before filming was officially confirmed. Filming then began in Paris in May 2025 and wrapped in September that year, with the series then scheduled for a 2026 release. Variety noted Omar Sy’s busy schedule, as the actor took on more creative involvement in Lupin and was also cast in the new Ocean’s prequel and Dumas: Black Devil. Sy said the team had invested the time needed to raise Lupin’s scope and deliver more surprises for viewers; when asked about making Part 4 accessible for new fans, Sy explained:
That’s also why we took our time. Obviously, we’re continuing a series that has been watched by a lot of people, so there are things we had to preserve. But at the same time, we had to bring something new.
And, when talking with THR, Sy described what creating Part 4 was like behind the scenes: “You need [to have] new adventure, to propose something new, entertaining and surprising. Because that show is a lot about surprises. So that’s why we took our time to find a way to have the right balance,” while also promising a “bigger” installment, fresh twists, and a “stronger, smarter” big bad. As such, Part 4’s delay is seemingly tied to a long wait for formal renewal and the work required to bring eight more episodes to the small screen.
With Assane set to face one of his biggest challenges yet, Lupin Part 4 has plenty to prove after three years away. Thankfully, Netflix subscribers don’t have to wait much longer until the legendary gentleman thief is back in action, with new episodes dropping on October 23.
