Night Mode gives Mortal Shell 2 an extra layer of challenge, increasing enemy difficulty while also introducing a unique area and a merchant that only appear at night. To activate Night Mode, bring the Gloombound Flame to the top of Marrow Keep and speak with Thestus.
The Shrine of Sorrows is the game’s only first-person dungeon, featuring several puzzles that can leave you confused. This walkthrough covers everything you need to know to make your way through it.
How to Reach the Shrine of Sorrows in Mortal Shell 2
You can only access the Shrine of Sorrows while Night Mode is active. Once you have activated it, fast travel to the Mushroom Village Beacon and head right.
Continue along the path, and you will encounter several dancing villagers. You can ignore them as you cross the bridge and continue past the bonfire. Cross the second wooden bridge and approach the cocoon-like structure ahead. Accept the invitation to gain access to the path leading toward the Shrine of Sorrows.
Before entering the house, head left to find a locked chest. Like several other chests in Mortal Shell 2, this one requires three offerings before it can be opened.

The first offering is to the left of the chest, near the broken shed. Continue past the shed and turn right to find the second offering at the end of the path. For the final one, turn around and look for the nearby well. Approach it and interact with the candle to activate the last offering.
Return to the chest and open it to receive Dorsalite.
Where to Find the Three Books in Mortal Shell 2
With the chest taken care of, enter the house and approach the person sitting on the chair. Read the note and then interact with the nearby cauldron to obtain the Tempered Iron Key.
Use the key to open the first door and enter the room. You will find the Moonlight Sonata book on a corpse lying on the table. Leave the room and enter the second room to find the Sunlight Sonata book lying on the floor.
You now need one final book, but before looking for it, head toward the main door of the house to investigate the banging. As you approach, a headless corpse will fall to the ground. Ignore it for now and leave the building.
Head right toward the tree and go behind it to find a note explaining what you need to do. If the instructions are confusing, turn around and look at the head mounted on the stick.
Perform a 360-degree turn, look at the head, then perform another 360-degree turn and look at it again. As you attempt another 360-degree turn, the area will change, and you will find yourself standing on a frozen lake.
Look beside the gravestone to find the Starlight Sonata. Pick it up and return to the head mounted on the stick. Perform the same sequence again to leave the frozen area.
Take the Starlight Sonata back into the house and place all three books in the box inside the second room. This will reward you with some Alluring Mushrooms.
How to Complete the Shrine of Sorrows in Mortal Shell 2
Place the Alluring Mushrooms into the cauldron and drink the resulting concoction. You will be teleported outside the house, but the area will now look considerably darker and more eerie.
Enter the house again and look for the Basement Key sitting on the table. Use it to open the basement door and head downstairs. You will find several witches performing what appears to be a ritual. Once you turn around, one of the witches will grab you, bringing the Shrine of Sorrows experience to an end.
Afterward, you will receive the Blackmarrow Key and Tooth of Nochte. The Tooth of Nochte can be sold to Merrick in exchange for Gold.
