Melty game launcher lets you play AI game mashups in one click, but there’s a catch

Melty promises one-click access to AI-assisted game mashups, but using the launcher means letting it download programs, modify files, and run setup steps on your PC.

The free Windows app brings community-made crossovers into a single launcher. Its website advertises combinations including Minecraft and Skyrim, Mario and Elden Ring, and Portal and Half-Life. Creators can also use coding agents such as Claude Code or Codex to build and publish their own projects.

It follows a wave of crossover demonstrations, including Tobyn Jacobs’ Minecraft-in-Elden-Ring mod and Minecraft running inside an unofficial iPhone port of GTA 5. Melty offers a place to discover and launch mashups, with its latest announcement promoting changes through chat while playing.

What Melty’s one-click setup involves

Founder David Miller introduced Melty Chat on October 14, writing: “Prompt to mashup, even while playing.” That followed his October 11 announcement of Melty MCP, which promoted creating a mashup from a single prompt.

Its terms of service authorize finding games, downloading tools, modifying folders, copying game files, running programs, and automatic updates. Melty says replaced files are backed up.

The October 14 terms say every release and update is audited before publication, including all files and GitHub source code. That review has not been independently verified for this report.

Separately, Wubbity raised recording concerns on October 5. He said he had inspected installer version 1.0.33 and found components from LookLoot, which he described as an app that records gameplay and inputs for AI training. Those claims have also not been independently verified for this report.

Melty’s current privacy policy, dated October 12, says it records launcher-window activity for some users, but excludes games and anything outside that window. It also says typed information is hidden. The policy says multiplayer hosts’ IP addresses and ports are shared with joining players.

The terms seek to exclude liability for lost data, saves, and account bans, where legally permitted. Total liability is capped at the greater of $100 or the previous year’s payments.

Creators face another condition: an exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free distribution license lasting while their work is listed and for 12 months after removal. Publishing modified versions elsewhere requires permission. Existing uploads receive a transition period until November 13, with an exception for releases already distributed elsewhere.

The documents establish permissions and contractual conditions. They do not, by themselves, establish that Melty is malware or that the recording components Wubbity described are active.

Dexerto has reached out to Melty for clarification regarding users’ security and privacy concerns.
