On October 11, 2026, country artist Kacey Musgraves held a concert at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. In between songs, she discussed Columbus Day with fans, then went on to condemn the Italian explorer onstage. Calling Columbus “literally the lamest person to probably ever exist,” she went on to say:

“Obviously **** Columbus. Literally the lamest person to probably ever exist. Like for real, what a loser. You’re a loser, Christopher Columbus. We hate you.”

This received backlash from conservative outlets like Daily Wire, which reposted the clip on X. Former reality TV star and former Los Angeles mayoral primary candidate Spencer Pratt shared his thoughts. On X, he had this to say:

“An entire generation of spoiled brats who’ve never built anything, stand on the crumbling empire they don’t deserve, built by great and courageous men who are now judged through the moral lens of the softest dorks living in the easiest times.”

At Kacey Musgraves’ recently held concert, Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate election James Talarico made an appearance. In response, United States Special Envoy for the Shield of the Americas Kristi Noem shared her thoughts on the matter. She said she preferred fellow country artist Ella Langley’s music over Musgraves’.

She even tagged Langley’s X handle, which was then allegedly untagged by the singer. Noem also quoted one of her songs, Choosin’ Texas, saying she would vote for Ken Paxton over Talarico. She wrote:

“I’ll take @ellalangleymsic over Kacey Musgraves any day. And if I’m choosin’ Texas, I’ll take Ken Paxton over James Talarico.”

Musgraves responded to the tweet by referring to Noem’s memoir No Going Back, in which she revealed that she had shot her dog. The country singer wrote:

“I don’t think you have a dog in this fight, but if you did, you would have shot it.”
