The massive Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks with shots of Jason driving, playing basketball, and showing off the apparent map are a few years old as insiders have provided some more details.
There have been some pretty big leaks regarding GTA 6 over the last few years. Back in 2022, footage of early gameplay testing appeared online, showing off Jason and Lucia interacting with some NPCs, as well as some new features.
However, they were blown out of the water on August 18 as a number of new clips surfaced. In one of those clips, Jason could be seen playing basketball outside of his house, while another focused on driving and combat – showing off some animations we’ve not seen to this point.
Additionally, there were looks at an apparent fuel and car health system, as well as a wider look at the game’s map and a supposed honor system. With the extended reveal on Netflix just around the corner, some fans have worried if these clips are new and if that’s what they can expect to see.
Yet, as many have suspected, these clips appear to be from a few years ago and lack the signature polish that Rockstar Games works on right before release.
Insider NateTheHate played down the idea that they were leaked in ongoing industry test events.
“Um… unless a new round of previews are underway, this claim isn’t accurate. Also, the leaked footage is over a year old,” he posted on ResetEra.
ResetEraAdditionally, members of GTAForums noted that metadata from the footage points to 2023, meaning it’s at least three years old. However, the date mentioned in the metadata likely isn’t when it was recorded.
One poster, Spider-Vice, said: “Someone or some software using an older ffmpeg build doesn’t mean that’s the date of the actual video.”
GTAForumsAn X account with the same name as the site where the leaks originated from stated that they’ve put the videos out there due to Rockstar scrapping physical discs.
They’ve also stated that they have more leaks up their sleeve, which are slated to drop on August 19. As of this point, they have not yet said what these leaks may be, but another account by the same name says there are between two and four new clips to come.
As noted, Rockstar is set to show off an extended look at GTA 6 on Netflix come August 27. However, parts of the community have called on them to bring it forward to combat these leaks.
The Grand Theft Auto developers have not yet commented on the leaks either, and it remains to be seen if they will do so. To this point, they have only issued DMCA claims on the videos and images, which points to them being real.
