Angela Sant’Albano, the voice of Resident Evil Requiem’s Grace Ashcroft, has reportedly stepped in as the new Gwendolyn in Tides of Annihilation.
The casting hunt had opened in July when Jennifer English stepped away from the lead role for health reasons, and Eclipse Glow Games pledged a replacement without revealing who she was. Fast forward to mid August, and a gameplay demo shown at a Shanghai showcase turned out to be the tell, because fans recognized the voice before the studio said a word.
Resident Evil actress will take over as Tides of Annihilation’s new Gwendolyn
The demo presented a Gwendolyn who sounded and looked noticeably different from earlier footage, and comments under the clip zeroed in on Sant’Albano almost immediately.
But then, the theory gained its real traction when Jennifer Prime, Gwendolyn’s motion-capture actress, shared the demo on X and replied to a fan who had flagged the voice as Grace Ashcroft’s: “Yep!!! But this time, no more screaming ‘LEON!!!!’.”
Of course, in Resident Evil Requiem, Grace does call out to Leon across several scenes, so it doesn’t take long to put two and two together.
Neither Eclipse Glow Games nor Sant’Albano confirmed the news officially as of writing. The studio did, however, drop a significant tell when English departed in July.
They described the replacement as someone whose “recent work in videogames” had made a strong impression, and while back then that could’ve been pretty much anyone, the Shangai showcase narrows the list down to one person.
Tides of Annihilation heads to Gamescom next week, where players should hear the new Gwendolyn for the first time.
When Sant’Albano recorded Requiem, Capcom had her working in near-total darkness while stunt performers physically charged at her mid-scene. We covered how the studio built that whole setup for Grace Ashcroft back in March.
