Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto has illustrated quite a few powerful bonds in his story over the years, and among them is the bond of Naruto Uzumaki and his Tailed Beast, Kurama. This relationship was built up from the very beginning of the story right to its very end, and persevered into the Boruto franchise as well. As Naruto Uzumaki was born alone, Kurama was the one who stayed the longest with him. While they hated each other at first, in the Fourth Great Ninja War, they ended up forging one of the strongest bonds that we have ever seen in the story.
Unfortunately, in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Chapter 55, which was officially released on February 19, 2021, these two parted ways following the death of the Tailed Beast. Now, however, their reunion is on the cards with a new Naruto anime being officially announced, and fans will finally get to see the power of the Nine Tails being brought out to the fullest extent.
Naruto And Kurama Were Officially Separated In Boruto: Naruto Next Generations
The Boruto: Naruto Next Generations series was quite detrimental to the overall character of Naruto Uzumaki. At the end of the original story by Masashi Kishimoto, Naruto Uzumaki reached the pinnacle of strength and was stated to be, as a shinobi, better than anyone else. Establishing this legacy for himself was the reward that fans received after investing decades into his journey. Unfortunately, the Boruto series changed all of this. Right from the get-go, it was clear that Naruto Uzumaki was being nerfed severely in the Boruto series, and it became even more apparent when they fought against Jigen. In Boruto: Naruto Next Generations chapter 38, which was released on September 20, 2019, Naruto and Sasuke were outclassed in battle by Jigen, which came as a surprise to many, but an even bigger surprise was delivered in Boruto Chapter 55, which was released on February 19, 2021. In this chapter, Kurama officially died and parted ways with Naruto Uzumaki.
“Normally, when a Jinchuriki’s Biju is extracted, they die. But that doesn’t apply to you. The Biju chakra simply vanishes. It might look to others like you’re dead, but you’re just in a temporary state of shock. Don’t worry, you’ll wake up soon. The price to pay for Baryon Mode is my life, not yours. I’ve got to go, but be real careful. You aren’t gonna have superhuman strength anymore. So if you overdo it, you’ll end up joining me soon. But until that day comes, you be well, Naruto.” — Kurama dies, Boruto Chapter #55
This death was triggered by the usage of Baryon Mode, which was required to defeat Isshiki Otsutsuki. Such a power demanded a big sacrifice, which came in the form of Kurama’s very own life. As such, on February 19, 2021, Naruto and Kurama parted ways forever. Since then, fans have not seen these two fight together, but now, this is officially changing as the Naruto anime is headed for a revival. Naruto Uzumaki will never get Kurama again in the future, but since the new series is set in the original Naruto timeline, these two will be seen fighting alongside each other once more, and that is incredibly exciting for all of us.
New Naruto Anime Is Officially Reuniting Naruto And Kurama Once More
The Naruto franchise is currently undergoing a full revival, and on October 10, 2026, at New York Comic Con, several new Naruto projects are set to be announced. Among them is also a limited anime release, which has already been announced by Studio Pierrot as well as Shueisha in a press release. This new anime is set before the beginning of Naruto Shippuden and, as such, will take us back to the roots of the series. In this new series, Naruto Uzumaki will play a significant role, which is to be expected, given that he is the protagonist of the series. At this time, Kurama, Naruto’s beloved Tailed Beast, is going to be in his body once more, reuniting the two in the process.
“This is a completely different beast. The other modes involve taking chakra that you acquire from elsewhere and just using it. Here, yours and my chakra are used as raw materials to create a different form of energy, until both of our lives run out.” — Kurama explains Baryon Mode, Boruto Chapter #52
It must be remembered, however, that Naruto and Kurama will not be friends in this new story. Given the timeline, at this point, Kurama wants to break free from the clutches of Naruto and even kill him. Meanwhile, Naruto Uzumaki wants to get as much chakra out of the beast as he can, and clearly these two are at opposing ends. Still, their reunion is not going to be any less exciting to witness, given that it is going to strengthen their bond even further and add more to their relationship. It is unclear as to who the villain is in the new Naruto limited anime release, but whoever it is will face the wrath of Naruto and the Nine Tails once again, which we are eagerly waiting to see.
Naruto’s New Power As A Jinchuriki Is Set To Shine
Naruto Uzumaki has been absent from the Boruto manga for over three years now, and this wait is not going to come to an end anytime soon. Prior to his disappearance, most of the time, we only got to see Naruto tap into his Six Paths Sage Mode, but in the new Naruto anime, his powers as the Jinchuriki of the Nine-Tails will shine more. For the first time in over a decade, Naruto Uzumaki will head back to his roots and tap into the Kurama Chakra Cloak. This cloak was seen in battle against the likes of Sasuke Uchiha long ago, and it also left an impact later down the line in the story. Sadly, ever since Naruto tamed the powers of Kurama, this cloak became incredibly underutilized.
In the new Naruto limited anime release, which fans all over the world are waiting for, this cloak will be brought back better than ever before, and that’s something we cannot wait to see. We can only hope that Naruto Uzumaki unleashes some new abilities in tandem with Kurama, and that the studio goes on to expand upon their relationship even further, especially after years of absence. At this point, Kurama and Naruto’s relationship is going to take a completely different turn, which we absolutely cannot wait for.
Fans who want further information on the return of Naruto and Kurama should stay tuned because we are just days away from Naruto’s stage at New York Comic Con finally beginning. It is set to unveil some interesting bits of information pertaining to the new anime release, along with much more. All we have to do is sit back patiently and wait.
All the episodes of the Naruto series, adapted from the manga by Masashi Kishimoto, are available to watch on Crunchyroll.
