Inde Navarrette has seen plenty of Obsession since Curry Barker’s horror film became one of the year’s biggest surprises. However, there is one scene she refuses to watch.

In a 13-minute video interview with Allure published on October 20, 2026, the actor said she cannot sit through the iconic “corner scene,” during which Nikki cries and says she does not like her dreams.

Navarrette said:

“Yep! I feel like I look like a little monkey. This is the scariest part of the film. I refuse to watch this scene. So I was looking at the corner; I was like, ‘I know what we’re talking about.’”

In the same interview with Allure, Navarrette stated her look in the movie was built on the uncanny valley, the discomfort many people feel when a face is almost, but not quite, human.

She credited Curry Barker with the idea:

“Curry had the idea of kind of playing with that part of your brain when something looks human, but there is a part of your brain that recognizes that it’s not, and that is called the uncanny valley.”

Furthermore, Navarrette praised key makeup artist Kate Oja, saying:

“And Kate Oja, who is the makeup artist for this, really did a good job because it’s terrifying. We, in a Joker-esque way, emphasized the lining of my lips and just kind of exaggerated certain features to give it this inhuman aspect. So, we put black around my pupils to emphasize the eyes, and just kind of all of the little lines in my face.”

SlashFilm reported in May that Oja shared behind-the-scenes images of the look on Instagram and said it was achieved “using highlight and shadow only. No prosthetics.” Navarrette’s description adds detail on how the shading was applied.
