Twitch streamer Asmongold recently claimed that using ad blockers is unethical, but his fans aren’t buying it.
Streamer Asmongold has sparked a debate among fans, calling the practice “undeniably an unethical behavior” after sharing his thoughts on the use of ad blockers.
Asmongold went live on September 1, 2026, from his second Twitch channel, where he initially spent time going through different YouTube videos. During the stream, a viewer noticed that the streamer appeared to be using an ad blocker on his browser and asked what he thought about using one.
Asmongold then explained that he supports the use of ad blockers but also believes there is an ethical issue involved:
“I think I support ad blocking, and it’s stealing. That’s my opinion. I think ad blocking is undeniably an unethical behavior. There is no universe in which ad blocking is ethical, and I will explain the reason why that is because a lot of you guys might not want to hear that. You might not want to hear this, but I’m going to tell you the truth, right? And I’ve always said, if you’re going to steal, steal, but steal with a smile, and don’t tell me you’re Robin Hood.”
The clip from the stream soon began circulating on social media, triggering fans to debate Asmongold’s comments:

“I agree with him but I’m still going strong with my adblocking when I can,” X user @thedms101 commented.

Asmongold Explained Why Using Ad Blockers Is Unethical
During the same September 1, 2026, stream, Asmongold discussed the relationship between viewers and online platforms while explaining his position on ad blocking.
According to the streamer, whenever a user watches a video on a platform, they enter into what he described as a social contract:
“Every single piece of media on the internet, you are entering into a social contract with the person who’s providing that media that you will provide them with some degree of collateral or some degree of restitution for consuming their labor or their input or whatever they are doing, their creation.”
He then explained why he believes using an ad blocker breaks that agreement:
“So whenever you intentionally forego that, you know, basically social contract that you have with that other person, you are making a world where if everybody did that, the content and the material that you were consuming could not exist.”
His comments have since sparked discussion among viewers, with fans debating whether blocking ads should be viewed as a violation of an agreement or simply as a personal choice when browsing online.
