Mark Fischbach, better known online as Markiplier, has reportedly taken a major stake in GoPro, making the YouTuber one of the camera company’s biggest individual shareholders.

According to a Schedule 13G filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission dated August 20, Fischbach owns 13.5 million shares of GoPro’s Class A common stock. That represents an 8.5% ownership stake in the company. The filing indicates that the shares were held as of July 13.

The document also classifies Fischbach’s investment as passive. In simple terms, that means he stated that he did not acquire the shares with plans to take control of GoPro or influence how the company is run.

“gopro trades like a penny stock most days, doesn’t take much capital to become the largest individual holder there,” X user @Wizard_Of_Alt said.

Markiplier’s Past Investments Show Why His GoPro Move Is Drawing Attention

Fischbach has built his fortune well beyond YouTube ad revenue. Alongside his channel, he co-founded the apparel brand Cloak with fellow creator Jacksepticeye, co-hosts the popular podcast Distractible, and has invested in real estate, including a Los Angeles property purchase years ago.

His biggest financial swing came through filmmaking. Markiplier self-funded the horror movie Iron Lung on a reported $3 million budget, and it went on to earn approximately $51.2 million in worldwide returns. That payoff gave him real capital to work with beyond his usual YouTube income.

His reported GoPro investment appears to fit into that same pattern. The move comes shortly after Markiplier posted a GoPro-related video on his YouTube channel, making the investment particularly interesting to fans. While there is no confirmed connection between the video and his decision to buy shares, the timing has sparked plenty of discussion online.

For someone who already uses and promotes the product on camera, putting money behind the company tracks with everything he’s done before.
