Magic: The Gathering’s Hatsune Miku Commander deck reached $10,100 in an eBay auction while it was still an unreleased rarity, but its official $149.99 launch is designed to prevent scalpers from creating the same scarcity.
Hatsune Miku has previously appeared across several smaller MTG Secret Lair releases, including a 2024 collection that sold out in record time.
The newest crossover is much larger, giving the virtual singer her own complete 100-card Commander deck. However, fans first discovered it months before Wizards of the Coast planned to announce it.
In June, a customer who ordered the Secret Lair Commander Deck: Goblin Storm was accidentally sent the unannounced Miku deck instead. The sealed deck was subsequently listed on eBay, where an auction attracted 57 bids and closed at an eye-watering $10,100.
That five-figure valuation was driven by the deck effectively being one of a kind at the time. Wizards has now ensured the official release will be anything but scarce.
Hatsune Miku Commander deck will be printed for everyone who orders
Wizards revealed on August 4 that the Hatsune Miku deck will have a special 24-hour print-to-demand window when it launches on August 10.
According to the official announcement, every order placed between August 10 at 9 AM PT and August 11 at 8:59 AM PT will be fulfilled.
A limited number of decks will be ready to ship immediately. Once those are gone, Wizards will print enough additional copies to cover the remaining orders. Those copies are expected to ship in May 2027 across North America and June 2027 in the EU and UK.
That means scalpers may still be able to charge impatient collectors extra for the first wave, but they cannot buy every available deck and force fans to turn to eBay. Anyone ordering during the 24-hour window can instead secure one for $149.99, effectively destroying the scarcity behind the previous $10,100 auction.
Secret Lair director Matthew Hodgins described the system as an experiment and “a direct response to Goblin Storm.” If successful, Wizards could use similar order windows for future Commander decks and other highly sought-after products.
The deck contains 100 green and white cards, including 26 foil borderless cards with new Hatsune Miku artwork, 74 non-foil reprints, 10 double-sided tokens, a display commander, and a deck box. It is led by Miku, Song of the People, an alternate version of Trostani, Selesnya’s Voice.
