A gym chain has created a special thumb workout to help GTA 6 fans prepare for marathon gaming sessions when Rockstar’s long-awaited sequel launches on November 19.
UK fitness chain PureGym has teamed up with personal trainer David Hope to develop a series of exercises designed to keep players’ hands and fingers dextrous.
GTA 6 fans can now train their thumbs
With GTA 6 less than a month away and a wave of ‘sickness’ predicted to coincide with its release, millions are expected to spend hours exploring Vice City on release day and beyond.
PureGym is aiming to ride the hype, with Hope, a personal trainer and former Royal Air Force serviceman, putting together a three-part workout aimed specifically at controller users.
The routine involves touching the thumb to each fingertip, repeatedly curling the fingers into a fist, and performing finger push-ups by pressing the fingertips of both hands against the floor.

Each exercise should be repeated 10 times, with Hope recommending that players complete the routine before picking up their controllers and again after finishing a session.
“We warm up before a run or a gym session, so why not before a long gaming session? Your thumbs and hands are doing the heavy lifting, and the rest of your body is barely moving,” Hope explained.
“Even just a few minutes before you start your game and a quick reset every hour or so, can make a big difference to how you feel the next day.”
Hope said that hours of repetitive button presses can leave players with stiff hands, wrists and forearms, while sitting in the same position for extended periods can cause discomfort elsewhere.
For anyone planning to spend considerably longer than a few hours in Vice City, Hope has also devised a separate living room workout featuring jumping jacks, arm circles and leg swings performed in 30-second intervals.
Grand Theft Auto 6 releases on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
