Call of Duty gifts player who called MW4 trailer “awful sh*t” a beta code

A Modern Warfare 4 skeptic called the new trailer awful, and the game’s own account handed him a free beta code instead of having an argument.

This admittedly odd act of kindness comes just days before the early access beta kicks off, the first weekend that’s ever bundled Warzone, the campaign, and multiplayer into one test.

It seems not everyone was ready to jump into the free beta this weekend, but in the face of critique, the official COD X account decided not to bite back.

Call of Duty sends a beta code instead of a comeback

TristanSpoof, quote-posting a reshare of the reveal trailer, wrote that it looked bad and that he wasn’t buying until he saw it running live.

The official CallofDutyCM account replied within the hour, telling him he’d get to see it live this weekend anyway, and offered to DM over a beta code on top of that. Welcoming the gift, Tristan took the code and replied with a gif of Leonardo DiCaprio raising a toast.

Tristan later clarified he wasn’t turning on the franchise, since he’s clocked over 50,000 hours across Call of Duty since 2009. “This new game just doesn’t speak to me,” he admitted, though he promised he’d still give the beta a shot.

He wasn’t the only one who cashed in on the goodwill, though. Another user, going by Sly The Sledgehammer, called the account “goated” and simply asked for a code, and got one too.

The beta itself runs August 21 to 25 for early access, opening to everyone August 28 through September 1 with Switch 2 joining for that second wave. Modern Warfare 4 launches October 23, and unlike the last two Black Ops entries, it’s skipping Xbox Game Pass at launch.

It’s the kind of goodwill Modern Warfare 4 could use right now, especially after Infinity Ward found itself fielding gameplay complaints just weeks before launch.
