With Avengers: Endgame Encore hitting theaters on September 25, the official runtimes have revealed that regular screenings will actually show less footage.
Avengers: Doomsday arrives later this year, marking the beginning of the end of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, before Secret Wars brings it to a close in 2027. To help set up Doctor Doom as the movies’ big bad, Marvel is re-releasing Endgame.
Titled ‘Endgame Encore,’ the new version of the movie features a number of changes, including adjusted color grading, some altered dialogue, and, crucially, entirely new scenes that tie directly into Doomsday.
The latter is the reason that most fans will be heading back to theatres for another three-plus hours, but it turns out the amount of extra content depends on the kind of screening you see.
The original Avengers: Endgame had a runtime of 181 minutes, and according to the British Board of Film Classification, the Infinity Vision version of Endgame Encore is 186 minutes and 14 seconds. This means there is just over five minutes of new footage to see.
However, the regular screenings of Avengers: Endgame Encore are 183 minutes and 3 seconds, indicating there are only two minutes of new footage in this version.
Infinity Vision is a certification awarded to screens by Disney to show that they are 45 feet wide and use 45-foot-wide screens. So far, the only movies confirmed to use the format are Endgame Encore and Doomsday.
The good news is that, unlike IMAX, Infinity Vision isn’t a different piece of technology, so the tickets tend to cost the same as regular screenings. However, there are 75 of these screens in the United States, so you’ll have to check your local theatre if you want to get the most out of the re-release.
Director Joe Russo recently told Fandango that Endgame Encore is “required viewing for following the story in Doomsday.” It also has some scenes set within Doomsday’s story, so fans will want to see every second of new footage if they can.
