STATS Charlotte is facing backlash after a customer’s post about being charged $6 for a to-go box passed 868,000 views on Threads.
The customer, @millionairemace_, shared a photo of her receipt alongside the caption: “I’m calling the police…this should be a CRIMEEEEE! Be so forreal.”
The post has attracted thousands of likes and comments as social media users debate whether restaurants should charge customers for packaging leftover food.

In a follow-up post, the customer said she had already dined at STATS, ordered a bottle, shots and hookah, and only asked for a box after she could not finish her pasta. She said the price of the meal was not the issue.
“I think some people are confused…I don’t care about the price of the food,” she wrote. “The issue was the charge for a box.”

Restaurant says the charge was for taking the meal to go
STATS responded to the backlash by explaining that the $6 was an adjustment for taking the meal to go. The customer also said staff described it as a special on the pasta that required customers to pay extra if they wanted to take it home.
That response has left diners even more confused, because the customer claims she did not order a cheaper takeout meal. She says she ate at the restaurant, spent money on drinks and hookah, and only requested a container for food she had already purchased.
“I did not go in there with the intention of getting a togo meal at a cheaper price,” she wrote. “I did not finish my pasta. BC I didn’t finish my pasta I got charged for a box OR regular price, however you want to look at it. God forbid a girl gets full.”
STATS’ public menu confirms that the Charlotte venue offers food, drinks and hookah, but it does not clarify whether the $6 charge is a standard policy or an isolated mistake.
