Senator Bernie Sanders posted a lengthy video on social media on how the new Democratic majority must help the people.

Senator Bernie Sanders did not waste any time and shared some friendly reminders to the new Democratic majority after the midterm elections. In a post on X on November 5, 2026, he said the midterm results had delivered a clear message, but there is more work to be done.
“The American people spoke loudly and clearly on Tuesday. The new Democratic majority cannot continue the same old, same old establishment policies. Working families want change, REAL change, and that’s what Democrats must deliver.”
Voters gave Democrats both chambers of Congress on November 3, 2026. The party won at least 53 Senate seats and flipped seven Republican-held ones. Democrats also took the House, ending a narrow Republican majority. Hakeem Jeffries is in line to become the first Black Speaker.

Senator Bernie Sanders Encouraged the New Democratic Majority To Serve the People

After learning about the results of the progressive sweep, Bernie Sanders celebrated wins in both chambers. He named 16 newly elected officials; chief among them is Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan. El-Sayed is officially the first Muslim senator. Despite the results, the senator believes winning is not enough on its own. Power has to produce results for working families.
His list of immediate tasks starts with health care. In the same address, he called for repealing $1 trillion in Medicaid and Affordable Care Act cuts. Those cuts, he warned, threaten coverage for 15 million Americans. He also wants ACA tax credits restored to stop premium spikes for 20 million people. He wants Congress to pass Medicare for All, which he says 66% of Americans support.
Coverage of the House Democrats’ plans noted that Representative Jamie Raskin has laid out a roadmap for renewing American government. The Maryland Democrat frames the majority as a rebuilding project. At the end of his video message, Bernie Sanders claims this is a fight to give hope to every American.
