Anime has no shortage of powerful swordsmen who have developed their unique fighting styles and trained their blade skills to no end. Among them, Black Clover‘s resident anti-magic swordsman, Asta, is one of the most formidable. He has mastered four unique swords, each giving him incredible combat advantages.
However, Black Clover isn’t the only series that features a powerful anime swordsman like Asta. Over the years, anime has introduced plenty of exceptional swordsmen, most of whom surpass Asta in swordsmanship. Asta’s blade skills may be top-tier, but they are far from the strongest in anime.

Yoo Mira Is a Godlike Swordswoman Asta Cannot Easily Beat
The God of High School
The God of High School is filled with powerful fighters who can potentially solo the Black Clover universe, mostly due to the charyeok they possess. Charyeok is the act of borrowing powers from gods and other supernatural beings, allowing the characters to dominate battlefields like deities.
Yoo Mira, one of the strongest swordsmen in the series, boasts high-end feats that far surpass Asta’s displays of power in his own universe. Her Charyeok, Lu Bu Fengxian, significantly enhances her combat abilities, allowing her to unleash high-level attacks worthy of a divine warrior.

Empty Void Is A Dimensional Swordsman Asta Would Struggle To Defeat
One-Punch Man
Under the influence of One-Punch Man‘s God, Empty Void evolves from a human into an overpowered Mysterious Being that poses a world-ending threat. Although he remains weak against the likes of Saitama, his higher-dimensional abilities and mastery of spatial manipulation make him a formidable anime swordsman.
Empty Void can unleash dimensional slashes with his legendary Demon Blades, cleaving through space itself from outside the universe and into hyperspace. These devastating attacks allow him to bypass conventional barriers and strike opponents from a distance, making his swordsmanship extremely difficult to counter for someone like Asta.
Guess the anime from the emojis.

Meliodas’ Assault Mode Puts Him Above Asta’s Level
The Seven Deadly Sins
The Seven Deadly Sins‘ resident swordsman, Meliodas, can infuse his blade with the power of darkness, allowing him to unleash devastating attacks against his opponents. He can deliver thousands of slashes in an instant, reflect magic attacks with amplified power, and even overwhelm powerful knights, demons, and other godlike beings.
Meliodas is renowned for his signature Full Counter ability, and combined with his Lostvayne Sacred Treasure, he can create multiple clones of himself. However, in his Assault Mode, Meliodas possesses overwhelming demonic power that would make the fight unfair, even for Asta, whose anti-magic could potentially render Full Counter ineffective.

Arthur Boyle Is a Swordsman Asta Cannot Counter
Fire Force
The Special Fire Force has a ridiculously powerful swordsman in Arthur Boyle, whose power is directly linked to his feelings and imagination. The more he feels “knightly,” the stronger he becomes on the battlefield. Likewise, the more he imagines himself as a legendary knight wielding an invincible sword, the further his combat abilities exceed his limits.
As such, Asta has a dangerous rival in Arthur Boyle, who ends up becoming Fire Force‘s strongest character. His ultimate move alone, Violet Flash: Earth Divider, can split the entire world into two, and in the process extinguish the flames of the Great Cataclysm. Since Arthur’s powers aren’t magic-based, Asta cannot simply rely on his anti-magic swords to neutralize his attacks.

Reinhard van Astrea’s Divine Protections Leave Asta With Few Options
Re:Zero
The creator of Re:Zero has personally confirmed that Reinhard van Astrea is the strongest character in the isekai series. His mastery of the sword, in addition to his multiple Divine Protections, make him the strongest Re:Zero character ever. The likes of Subaru don’t even compare to his tremendous powers.
In a battle against Asta, Reinhard van Astrea could potentially obtain a Divine Protection to counter Anti Magic, given Od Lagna’s ability to grant him blessings suited to different circumstances. Whatever plan Asta has in mind to defeat Reinhard, it will be ineffective as long as Reinhard has access to his Divine Protections.

Ichigo Kurosaki Has More Power Than Asta Can Handle
Bleach
Bleach has an abundance of exceptional anime swordsmen, and Ichigo Kurosaki ranks as one of the most formidable. He draws power from spiritual energy, fueling his overpowered Zanpakuto techniques that are nothing short of devastating. He also has access to other unique powers, thanks in large part to his multi-racial hybrid physiology.
While Black Clover‘s Asta is a renowned anti-magic swordsman with impressive feats on his own, he can’t simply swing his sword and negate Ichigo Kurosaki’s spiritual powers and offensive abilities. The protagonist of Bleach outscales Asta in speed and power, and his high-end feats put him in a league of his own.

Future Trunks’ Power Scaling Leaves Asta Far Behind
Dragon Ball
The Dragon Ball series mostly features hand-to-hand combat experts, but that doesn’t mean it lacks exceptional anime swordsmen. One of the most popular, not to mention formidable, is Future Trunks, whose swordsmanship and Super Saiyan transformations put several powerful opponents to shame. For instance, Mecha Frieza, King Cold, and even Fused Zamasu fell victim to his overwhelming power.
As such, Future Trunks is several steps ahead of Black Clover‘s Asta, with a power gap so wide that the anti-magic swordsman would struggle to keep up in terms of swordsmanship, superior physical abilities, and destructive potential. While Future Trunks bests the likes of Goku Black in swordsmanship, Asta is better suited to fighting magic users than Saiyan warriors.
