Police responding to a reported home burglary in Washington discovered the suspected intruder was actually a wild bobcat that had made its way inside.
Officers with the Kirkland Police Department were called to a home in Kirkland last week to investigate a possible burglary. When they arrived, they found the animal perched at the top of the home’s staircase.
Rather than attempting to approach the bobcat, officers used a drone to keep track of its movements while wildlife officials were called in to help remove it from the property.
Bobcat may have entered through open window
Authorities believe the bobcat climbed a tree near the house before jumping through an open window.
Police also suspect the resident’s cat may have attracted the bobcat to the property and inadvertently led to the unusual encounter.
With the wild animal loose inside the home, officers deployed an indoor drone to monitor it from a safe distance. Police were then able to use the drone to help corral the bobcat without officers having to approach it directly.
Wildlife officials eventually arrived at the residence and successfully sedated the animal before removing it from the home.
The bobcat was unharmed during the incident and was later released back into the wild.
It’s not the only recent case of a homeowner discovering an unexpected wild visitor. In August, a woman woke up to find a bear had broken into her home and helped itself to a bucket of KFC left on the kitchen counter.
