With the Valheim 1.0 release just around the corner on September 9, 2026, now is the best time to start a new world and prepare yourself for a journey to the north. However, before leaving the first biome, you have to defeat the Eikthyr boss, who is the first of many Forsaken in the world of Valheim. Doing so provides you with materials and powers that are necessary for item progression to the next tier.

To help you out, here’s everything you need to know to easily defeat the Eikthyr in Valheim.

Where To Find Eikthyr in Valheim

Fortunately, unlike other Forsaken foes in Valheim, Eikthyr is the easiest one to locate due to being the first boss of the game. When you spawn in your world, you land at the center of the map on top of the Sacrificial Stones structure. The structure has multiple stone steles, each with a boss image carved into it.

To get the location of the Eikthyr summoning location, interact with the rune tablet under the Eikthyr stele as shown in the image above. This creates a marker in your vicinity, within the Meadows biome. From here, all you have to do is make use of the map and reach that marker to find Eikthyr’s Forsaken Altar.

Do note that there can be multiple Eikthyr summoning locations on the map, so you may find one while exploring around the Meadows. In such cases, there is no need to interact with the rune tablet back at spawn, as you can open the map and mark the location of the summoning area manually.

To summon the Eikthyr and fight it in Valheim, you need to collect two Deer trophy and sacrifice them at its dedicated Forsaken Altar. You can find deer all around the Meadows, with forests typically having a higher spawn rate. The Deer trophy is a rare drop that you get after killing a deer.

Here are some tips to help you quickly collect the Deer trophy:

  • Craft the Crude Bow and use wooden arrows to take down deer from a distance. The deer get spooked and run away quickly if they spot you, so melee weapons are typically not a viable option at all.
  • Alternatively, you can craft Flint Spears and throw them using the secondary attack, but retrieving them can be time-consuming. However, they are much more accurate than bows at first.
  • Walk around the Meadows till you hear the deer, and immediately crouch. Slowly get near and use the bow to take care of it.
  • If you miss with the bow, level up your proficiency in Archery to improve your skill a little.

When you are done collecting the Deer trophy, put it into one of the slots in your hotbar, and interact with the Forsaken Alter by using the item on it. This changes the time and summons Eikthyr at the location.

Eikthyr Preparation Guide: All Things You Need

Due to Eikthyr being the first boss of Valheim, you do not get a huge variety of choices when it comes to gear and food. However, with a bit of preparation, you can easily build a good setup that suits your playstyle. That said, here’s everything you should prepare before heading into the fight, including how to get them:

Name Items Required Source
Club 6x Wood Player Crafting Menu
Wood Shield 10x Wood
4x Resin
4x Leather Scraps
Workbench
Flint Spear 4x Wood
10x Flint
2x Leather Scraps
Workbench
Crude Bow 10x Wood
8x Leather Scraps
Workbench
Wood Arrow (20) 8x Wood Workbench
Leather Helmet 6x Deer Hide Workbench
Leather Tunic 6x Deer Hide Workbench
Leather Pants 6x Deer Hide Workbench
Leather Cape 4x Deer Hide
5x Bone Fragments
Workbench
Cooked Deer Meat 1x Deer Meat Cooking Station
Honey Beehives (Wild and Crafted)
Cooked Boar Meat 1x Boar Meat Cooking Station

In addition, make sure to upgrade any items that you can at the Workbench. Doing so usually requires the same materials you used to craft the item, but in greater amounts. Therefore, your entire preparation boils down to how much time you are willing to farm for materials in the wild. Do note that this applies to every boss in the game.

In the case of food, you can have three active food buffs at any given point. At first, some either give mainly Health or Stamina. However, later on you can cook items that provide a decent amount of both stats.

When you eat the food, the buff stays on for a long time, which is just an increase to your stats. However, it slowly starts to go down as the buff duration timer at the bottom-left corner of your screen decreases. When the timer reaches zero, the buffs fully go away, leaving you with base stats.

Eikthyr Boss Stats, Weaknesses, and Resistances

The Eikthyr is a large lightning stag wrapped in chains. It uses large antlers for swiping melee attacks and has two other ranged lightning abilities. While the Eikthyr is not weak to any type of damage, it is immune to Stagger, Chop, and Pickaxe damage. That said, here are all the boss stats:

Name Stat
Health 500
Antler Attack 20 Pierce Damage
Ranged Attacks 15 Lightning Damage

And here are all the boss’s attacks, including all you need to avoid them:

Name Effect Cooldown How to Avoid
Antler Swipe Eikthyr swipes at you with its antlers in a small arc.  5 seconds. Either block at the perfect moment to avoid taking damage, or roll back.
Lightning Charge Eikthyr shoots out a horizontal lightning streak with a range of 20 meters. 25 seconds. The attack can be easily dodged by rolling to the sides of the lightning streak.
Lightning Slam Eikthyr slams at its location and creates a 10-meter-radius lightning sphere. 40 seconds. Eikthyr takes some time to charge up the attack, which is enough to run out of the attack range.

While there isn’t much to the boss, try to deal damage whenever you block an Antler Swipe with your shield. Keep repeating the same thing while dodging the other two lightning attacks. This way, you can slowly whittle down the boss’s health to zero and defeat it.

Eikthyr Rewards and Uses in Valheim

Defeating the Eikthyr drops two essential items, which are the Eikthyr Trophy and Hard Antler. Here’s the purpose of both items:

  • Eikthyr Trophy: Take it back to the Sacrificial Stones at spawn and mount it on the stone stele. This allows you to occasionally use the Eikthyr Power and obtain a buff that reduces stamina usage for running, jumping, and swimming by 60%.
  • Hard Antler: You need it to craft the Antler Pickaxe, which allows you to mine Copper Ore. This unlocks a new tier of items and structures to help you progress the game.

Additionally, killing the Eikthyr for the first time enables the spawn of Greydrawf enemies in the Meadows at night. Moreover, you can occasionally get raided by new enemies from the region where the next boss is found.

This concludes our guide on everything you need to know about the Eikthyr in Valheim.
