A 17-year-old Indian-origin minor was charged with murdering his mother and 14-year-old brother in Acton, Massachusetts. According to an ABC News report, the police arrested Arjun Aravind on August 12, 2026, a day after he fled the scene of the crime on August 11 in the deceased mother’s car. Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said Aravind allegedly used ChatGPT to search for information about killing his family members before the crime took place.

In a statement to the press, the District Attorney explained the concerning online behavior of the minor. According to Ryan, the accused used ChatGPT to create fantasies and explore ideas that relate to his family’s murder.

“Including using the internet and ChatGPT to make searches for theoretical ideas or fantasy stories regarding the killing of his family.”

When asked to clarify by a reporter, Marian Ryan said:

“He was engaged in the use of ChatGPT in creating fantasy stories that seem to appear to relate to threats to his family.”

As per the police report, Arjun Aravind’s father left their family house at around 7 am on August 11. That was the last time his 45-year-old mother was seen alive. The younger brother, Siddharth Aravind, left the house at 9 am but returned around noon. The father called a wellness check on the house in the evening, claiming he could not contact anyone from his family. He claimed a tutor notified him that the house was inaccessible.

In the press conference addressing the crimes, the District Attorney explained that police found both the mother and the younger brother in the house. However, the reason for their deaths is still under investigation:

“Both victims were suffering from obvious trauma. But the exact cause is still pending. We are waiting on a ruling from the office of the chief medical examiner.”

The 17-year-old accused of double murder left the house after the alleged crime. He reportedly stole his mother’s Honda Accord. Police apprehended him in a parking lot on Wednesday morning after a 12-hour-long manhunt. As per ABC News, the police charged Arjun Aravind with various crimes:
