A man in Texas is facing months in prison after he disrupted a public meeting in early August and swore at officials.
Elected officials regularly open their doors for feedback from constituents. This might be difficult at their office and in local hearings, but you do have access to them as a voter, especially when a matter concerns you directly.
In the case of Efrin ‘EJ’ Carrion, he took part in a local hearing in Texas, as officials were set to vote on a proposal that would reduce the number of polling locations.
Plenty of protesters used colorful and strong language during the hearing, which ended up in a number of arrests. However, Carrion had to wait a week before he was picked up by police over what he’d said.
Texas podcaster arrested after swearing at hearing
As per CHRON, Carrion was arrested on August 12 and booked into Tarrant County Jail on the charge of disrupting a meeting or procession. He is also the host of the 817 podcast.
During the hearing, he called the proposal “extremist bulls*it” and then labelled the officials as “bulls*it” too. He exited the room shortly after, calling one of the judges a “small man” on his way out.
According to the report, the podcast host was released after a $600 bond was paid for him. However, the charge carries a punishment of up to 180 days in jail, a fine of up to $2,000, or both.
As noted, there were a number of arrests at the hearing, and Carrion is not the only one facing charges. However, given the fact that his charges stems from swearing, there has been interest on social media.
“This is ridiculous,” one said. “A warrant being issued for saying “bulls*it.” Texas has truly lost the plot,” another added.
A date has not been set for a hearing, and it remains to be seen if the podcaster will spend time behind bars.
