A French YouTuber lost his entire channel after uploading gameplay of Hellraiser: Revival, even after he censored the nudity.
J0nathan’s channel had 190,000 subscribers and a decade of uploads when he decided to upload a video of the hotly anticipated horror game video with the nudity covered up.
YouTube’s sexual-content enforcement was already drawing fire after its ASMR channel terminations this summer. Then it came for his channel.
Why did YouTube ban J0nathan’s channel?
YouTube pulled J0nathan’s video and handed him a strike for nudity, he said in a September 22 post on X, four days after the takedown.
A few days later, it severed the whole channel too. The notice cited “severe or repeated violations of our sex and nudity policy,” while an appeal reply added that “explicit content that’s meant to be sexually gratifying isn’t allowed on YouTube,” IGN reported.
J0nathan told IGN he had covered the nudity with black boxes and added a “Not Made for Kids” label, but skipped the age restriction, reasoning that the rest of the game was “just a standard horror title like Resident Evil.”
Meanwhile, uncensored footage of the same scene stayed up on other channels. His first appeal bounced within minutes, and he said “everything seems to be handled by AI.”
The ban, he added, wiped out “10 years of hard work and over 3,000 videos,” along with his main source of income.
On October 8, he asked YouTube for “one final serious review” before he pursued appeals under the EU’s Digital Services Act and legal action. He also urged Saber Interactive to step in, even though its creator FAQ said the studio wasn’t “responsible for any strikes.”
It followed last November’s wave of channel terminations and strikes with no warning, when YouTubers also blamed AI moderation. Neither YouTube nor Saber had responded to J0nathan at the time of writing.
