Cinnabon and BeatBox have turned a three-year-old April Fools’ joke into a real alcoholic drink inspired by the chain’s signature cinnamon rolls.
In 2023, BeatBox teased a Cinnabon-flavored drink in an April Fools’ Instagram post. The product didn’t exist, but fans wanted the companies to make it happen.
Three years later, they have. Announced on October 6, BeatBox Cinnamon Roll combines spiced cinnamon, brown sugar and cream cheese frosting flavors in a limited-edition alcoholic beverage.
The launch follows another bakery-inspired crossover earlier this year, when BuzzBallz teamed up with Pop-Tarts for Frosted S’mores and Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon cocktails.
Cinnabon’s April Fools’ drink hits shelves with 11.1% alcohol
According to BeatBox’s product page, the Cinnamon Roll drink contains 11.1% alcohol by volume. It is available for a limited time at select retailers across the US.
“What started as an April Fools’ joke quickly became something our fans genuinely wanted us to make,” BeatBox co-founder and CEO Justin Fenchel said in a statement published by Forbes.
However, the collaboration has already attracted criticism from the US Alcohol Policy Alliance, which wants Cinnabon and BeatBox’s parent company, Anheuser-Busch, to cancel the partnership.
The group argues that using a familiar family food brand to sell alcohol could make the product more appealing to underage consumers.
Beatbox“Turning a cinnamon roll into an alcoholic drink uses a brand familiar to children and families to make an addictive, cancer-causing product more appealing,” US Alcohol Policy Alliance CEO Mike Marshall said. “No amount of Cinnamon frosting can disguise the consequences.”
A BeatBox spokesperson fired back, telling Inc that “BeatBox is strictly sold and marketed to adults of legal drinking age.”
The criticism comes shortly after Pop-Tarts’ BuzzBallz collaboration ended amid underage drinking concerns.
For now, the Cinnabon drink remains available. Customers can check participating retailers through BeatBox’s store locator, although the companies haven’t announced an end date for the release.
