United States Senator Mark Kelly expressed his concern about the ongoing Iran War and questioned Trump’s goals.

Senator Mark Kelly says the war with Iran has raised prices and left the White House without answers. He posted the charge on X on November 2, 2026, eight months into the fighting.
“It’s been eight months since Trump bypassed Congress and started a war with Iran. Prices are still rising, Americans can barely afford their lives, and this Administration still can’t explain what this was supposed to achieve or when it will end.”
Kelly is a retired Navy captain who flew 39 combat missions in the Gulf War. He later made four space shuttle flights and won his Senate seat in 2020. Kelly has argued all year that the administration lacks a defined goal and an exit strategy.

Plans for Another Round as the Bill Grows

Other Democrats have taken up the same question. Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut said on October 29 that he had been briefed on the plan. He described the plan, which he said would restart the war after the midterms, as “insane.” “It will not achieve objectives and will set off a new cycle of escalation,” Murphy said. Trump has answered the criticism by shrinking the definition of the conflict. On Pod Force One, New York Post columnist Miranda Devine asked about Republicans who expected a “no wars” president. He replied: “I haven’t had much of a war.”
U.S. and Israeli strikes began on February 28. Eight months later, prices tell a blunter story. The national average for regular gasoline was $4.29 a gallon on Monday, against $2.98 before the war. Diesel averaged $6.35, a record, up from $3.76 in February. The Pentagon has told Congress the war cost $47.1 billion through October 16. House Democrats have blamed the war for costs that are crushing Americans. Trump has promised that prices will stop climbing once the conflict ends.
