Streamer Kreyg has built a custom Twitch integration for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas that lets viewers spend bits to actually call CJ’s in-game phone, and it’s already gone viral with over a million views.
Using the original phone-answering animation, CJ picks up and a viewer’s text-to-speech message plays as the voice on the other end of the line, with the custom text appearing as on-screen subtitles.
How the mod actually works
Kreyg built the system using plugin-sdk alongside a custom C# program that feeds live Twitch chat data directly into the game session.
Beyond the phone calls, viewers can also spend bits to spawn into the game as friendly or hostile characters, or trigger classic cheat codes mid-stream. Kreyg added those extra features just a day after the phone call showcase went viral on September 2, 2026.
Despite the wave of requests to download it, Kreyg says it isn’t ready for public release. “At the moment it’s not very plug n play and would be a bit of a hassle for people to set up and get it working properly,” he said.
He hasn’t ruled it out entirely, though. “Given the interest, I would love to possibly make it available for everyone to use,” Kreyg said. “That would however require a good bit of planning, testing and work on my end. For now I’ll simply say it’s TBD if/when it will release!”
Kreyg has said he’d eventually like to build similar integrations for GTA IV and Vice City.
