Total War: Shogun 2 is returning 15 years after its original release, complete with upgraded visuals, modern PC support, and more than 50 newly playable factions.
Creative Assembly and Sega have announced that Total War: Shogun 2 Complete Edition will launch on October 13 for $39.99. The new version bundles the original strategy game with all expansions and every piece of DLC released since its 2011 release.
There are also new playable minor factions, Japanese/Chinese audio, and a whole slew of upgrades that aim to make the classic strategy game even better than before.
Shogun 2 Complete Edition releases October 13
The Complete Edition has been updated with improved textures, lighting, and shadows, and supports 1440p, 4K, and ultrawide displays.
Sega also revealed that Shogun 2’s Complete Edition will feature modernized controls, quality-of-life features like colorblind accessibility options, and full Japanese and Chinese voice acting and text localization.
There’s also the addition of more than 50 newly playable minor factions, which Sega says will help expand Shogun 2’s warring clans even further. It’s important to note that the original version of Shogun 2 won’t be disappearing, but it will no longer be sold separately through Steam after September 28.
Current owners will keep access to their original copy and receive any original DLC they are missing for free. However, if you do choose to purchase the Complete Edition (usually $39.99/£34.99), you’ll get a 75% discount from October 13 until November 12, 2026.
Mod support is also moving to Mod.io, so any mods that you had for the original will not work with Complete Edition. Of course, you’ll still be able to play them on your original copy if there are any you wish to still use.
Anyone purchasing Complete Edition on Steam will receive both versions of Shogun 2 and the original game’s DLC, but sadly the Blood Pack add-on didn’t make the cut due to the age rating. Whether you’ll need to buy this again remains to be seen, but I’ll certainly miss the memeworthy tomato ketchup battles!
Total War: Shogun 2 Complete Edition launches October 13 on Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, and GOG.
