The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered has updated Roach’s movement behavior, but CD Projekt Red is letting players disable the changes if they prefer the horse’s famously silly antics.
Roach has become one of The Witcher 3’s biggest sources of unintentional comedy since the RPG launched in 2015. Players have shared countless clips of Geralt’s horse getting stuck inside cliffs, appearing on roofs, and generally being a silly horsey.
However, during an interview with Dexerto’s Fall Damage, Fool’s Theory Design Director Karolina Kuzia and CD Projekt Red Level Design Lead Miles Tost revealed that players will be able to keep Geralt’s “kind of buggy” horse.

“When it comes to Roach and her shenanigans, well, why fix something that is liked, right?” Kuzia said before handing the question to Tost. “I don’t know of any Roach bugs. I think she’s perfect,” Tost joked.
However, the Level Design Lead confirmed that the remaster introduces a toggleable feature that allows players to switch between what he called “legacy Roach” and the new updated version for the remaster.
“One cool thing about the remaster update is that we have updates to Roach’s movement behavior. So on that account, it might be disappointing to [players], but hear me out. We got you, Tost explained. “You can turn that off. So if you prefer legacy Roach the way you have grown to know her, be my guest.”
That’s not all, though, as the Songs of the Past expansion will take Geralt to an entirely new region and introduce a slew of quality-of-life updates.
The grizzled Witcher will also finally get his hands on his gnarly chain weapon that allows him to perform brutal grab attacks, which looks like something straight out of Mortal Kombat (it’s very cool).
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered launches on September 29, 2026, as a free upgrade for existing owners on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. However, we’ll need to wait a little longer for the third expansion, as Songs of the Past is scheduled for a 2027 release.
