After President Donald Trump sat down with Miranda Devine for an interview, political commentator Mehdi Hasan reacted to a specific segment. On his personal X account, the commentator reposted a clip where Devine asked the president to describe his male officials.

“I genuinely didn’t see the relentless Trump ‘gay pivot’ coming at this stage of the campaign,”

The line landed because of the timing. Trump’s answer came in an interview with Miranda Devine on the New York Post’s Pod Force One. The episode was released the day before an election that decides control of Congress.

Devine’s question was direct: who is the best-looking member of the administration? She offered JD Vance, Marco Rubio, Scott Bessent and Pete Hegseth as options. Trump laughed and said the question could get him “in big trouble.” “They’re all great looking,” he said, then worked through the list anyway.

Rubio drew the warmest review. “Marco’s really a great hot politician in the sense that he’s done great,” Trump said, adding: “JD, the same thing.” Bessent was “central casting,” the man he would pick for the lead in “a movie on the Treasury.” He moved through the names one by one, offering a specific compliment for each.

The episode aired as Trump closed a month of rallies for Republican candidates. Other answers were heavier. Told that many Republicans expected a “no-wars president,” Trump replied: “I haven’t had much of a war.” Asked about a Democratic takeover, he promised vetoes: “I guess I’ll become Mr. Veto.” Deals, he said, would come only after “a month or two.”
