Lucy Davis, best known for playing Dawn Tinsley in the original UK version of The Office, has revealed she has incurable stage 4 breast cancer.
The 53-year-old actor said she was diagnosed a year and a half ago after discovering a tiny hard spot that she almost did not have examined. The cancer has since spread to her spine, right hip and ribs.
Davis rose to fame opposite Ricky Gervais and Martin Freeman in The Office before appearing in movies and shows including Shaun of the Dead, Wonder Woman and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
She publicly disclosed her diagnosis in an Instagram post on August 11 after keeping it private throughout her treatment.
“A year and a half ago I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer, which has metastasized to my bones,” Davis wrote, adding that the disease is “incurable, and too late for chemo.”
The accompanying video showed Davis ringing a bell commonly used to mark the completion of a course of cancer treatment.

Davis explained that the pain can make it difficult to stand or walk for extended periods and that she sometimes needs to use a wheelchair.
Despite the diagnosis, she said she is attempting to spend whatever time she may have left enjoying life and finding lessons in what she has experienced.
Humor has been particularly important throughout her illness. Davis asked friends and relatives to continue making fun of her and, most importantly, not to treat her like a sick person.
“I’m not scared of whatever comes next. I’m at peace with it,” she wrote.
Davis also urged her followers not to ignore small or unfamiliar changes in their bodies. She described the first sign she noticed as a tiny “hard spot” rather than a traditional lump and said she nearly decided against having it checked.
The actor intends to continue supporting animal rights and said she remains able and eager to work, describing acting as one of the “biggest joys” of her life.
She concluded by wishing others facing cancer well, acknowledging the physical and mental toll of the disease while stressing that everyone should be allowed to navigate it in their own way.
