United States Senator Ted Cruz talks about the effects of the Iran War and rising tariffs as the reason why Texas flipped.

After learning the results of the 2026 midterm elections, Senator Ted Cruz shared a lengthy social media post. On his personal X account, the senator described the 2026 midterms as a “blue tsunami.” Cruz went further, describing the result as a “Watergate-level repudiation.”
In the state of Texas, Republicans lost every statewide race. James Talarico beat Ken Paxton for the Senate seat, and Gina Hinojosa took the governor’s office. Texas had not had a Democratic governor since 1994, or a Democratic senator since 1993. By his account, Cruz is now the only statewide elected Republican left in Texas.
“That is very real pain from real Americans, and too many Republican politicians seem like they didn’t understand or they didn’t care. Food is too high, gas is too high, diesel is too high, insurance is too high, life is too high.”
Cruz has held his Senate seat since 2013 and is not on the ballot again until 2030. He framed the loss as a failure to listen, saying too many politicians forget that politics is about families.

Ted Cruz Says Republicans Must Reconnect With Working-Class Voters After Devastating Election Defeat
Cruz wants Republicans to win back blue-collar voters with policies that change working people’s lives. He singled out two federal policies he said made everything costlier.
“Tariffs have made everything too expensive, and the Iran war has dragged on too long. It should have been brief, decisive, and over. It needs to end, and we should never, under any circumstances, give the Ayatollah billions of dollars.”
Outgoing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis reacted to the sweep and called it a huge loss. On the other hand, Vice President JD Vance broke down his explanation of why the Republican Party lost its goodwill, particularly by mentioning the ongoing conflict in Iran. Despite the results, Senator Ted Cruz is still looking forward to helping Texas into an economic miracle.
“We will rebuild as a true blue-collar party, not by embracing socialism, but by being real free-market conservatives. The way we built the Texas economic miracle in the first place, and we will build and rebuild America as well.“
