A Canadian teacher has been formally reprimanded after showing R-rated horror movies to ninth graders, spraying students with a water gun and sharing a meme involving a racial stereotype.
Raymond Alejandro Rojas Peralta, a high school teacher in Surrey, British Columbia, was disciplined over a series of incidents during the 2022-23 school year.
According to a consent resolution agreement detailed by KelownaNow, Peralta showed his Grade 9 class the R-rated horror films Scream and The Conjuring.
He also showed one ninth-grade student a meme involving a racial stereotype, although the specific contents of the image were not disclosed.
In another incident, Peralta used a water gun brought to school by a student to spray other students in a hallway.
His misconduct didn’t end there. The teacher also approached a ninth grader and attempted to discuss an ongoing school district investigation involving the student.
After discovering the student had been moved to another class, Peralta reportedly made an inappropriate comment about their departure.
Warner Bros.Teacher reprimanded for repeatedly crossing boundaries with students
As reported by iNFOnews, the school district initially suspended Peralta for one day without pay in June 2023 and required him to complete a course on creating a positive learning environment.
He completed that training in March 2024, but the matter was also referred to British Columbia’s Commissioner for Teacher Regulation.
The commissioner determined that Peralta “repeatedly failed to maintain appropriate boundaries with students” and “failed to create a positive and inclusive learning environment for students.”
Peralta admitted his actions amounted to professional misconduct and agreed to a formal reprimand under a September 29, 2026 consent resolution agreement.
PixabayHe must also complete a Reinforcing Respectful Professional Boundaries course by April 5, 2027, or risk having his teaching certificate suspended until he finishes it.
The commissioner acknowledged that Peralta had accepted responsibility for his actions and taken steps to address his behaviour.
The case follows several other unusual incidents involving educators. In September 2025, a teaching assistant was arrested for allegedly using “poop spray” at a school, reportedly causing $55,000 in damage.
In April 2026, TikTok star Noah Beck’s mother was placed on leave from her teaching job after an inappropriate video resurfaced online.
More recently, an Iowa substitute teacher was fired for offering students extra credit in exchange for contributing to a fundraiser for her trip to Ecuador.
