Sean Strickland, the controversial MMA fighter, has stirred debate online after claiming that allowing women to vote is “insanity,” and has once again drawn backlash following a post on X targeting supporters of Lindsay Clancy.
Strickland used his X account to argue that public sympathy for Clancy proved something was wrong with allowing women to vote. He suggested the Salem Witch Trials, in which dozens of women were executed on accusations of witchcraft in the 1690s, were not entirely misguided.
He then aimed insults at women who had shown up in pink shirts to support Clancy, saying their ability to vote amounted to insanity, and called for the repeal of the 19th Amendment, which grants women the right to vote in the United States:
“Lindsay Clancy support makes me realize maybe the Salem Witch trials weren’t such a bad thing.. The fact this fat, ugly b**** in pink shirts are allowed to vote is insanity. Repeal the 19th Amendment.”
Clancy is a former labor and delivery nurse from Duxbury, Massachusetts, standing trial for the alleged January 2023 killing of her three young children using exercise resistance bands.
The case shocked the country and reignited the national conversation around postpartum mental health, with Clancy’s defense centered on claims of severe postpartum depression and psychosis.
Right now, a visible show of support has formed around Clancy. Women wearing shirts reading “Peace For Lindsay” and “Justice For Lindsay” have gathered outside the courthouse, standing silently for over an hour before proceedings. That show of solidarity is what appears to have triggered Strickland’s remarks.
Sean Strickland Shows Support for Enes Kanter Freedom Amid WNBA Controversy
The WNBA continues to face controversy over transgender athlete participation after former NBA players Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White declared their intention to enter the 2027 WNBA Draft while identifying as women.
Kanter Freedom further drew attention on Sunday, August 23, when he attended the Indiana Fever vs. Chicago Sky game at Wintrust Arena in Chicago.
Before and during the game, he faced backlash over his presence and his views on transgender participation. He was later ejected following a heated exchange with Sky guard Natasha Cloud.
The incident also caught the attention of Strickland. On August 24, Strickland shared a video showing a person confronting or criticizing Kanter Freedom and appeared to support the former NBA player by trolling the person involved:
“Today’s society…4 foot 7 dude who peaked in junior high, telling a former #3 overall pick, who played 11 seasons in the NBA, with an estimated net worth of $40 million, that ‘you were sorry in the league’… I wish I was that sorry at my job!!”
However, the latest reports have now changed the situation. League sources told Front Office Sports that neither Kanter Freedom nor White is eligible to participate in the 2027 WNBA Draft. Sources reportedly described their declarations as “simply publicity stunts,” while the league has not publicly provided detailed eligibility criteria.
