Bernie Sanders recently shared his thoughts on Haley Stevens’ staff parting ways after she endorsed Mike Rogers.

On November 1, 2026, United States Senator Bernie Sanders shared his thoughts on Haley Stevens. Recently, Stevens expressed her support for Mike Rogers, the Republican candidate for Senate in Michigan, stating that she endorses him over Abdul El-Sayed. Although she had previously claimed that she supported her Democratic primary opponent, she changed her position.
On X, Detroit News reporter Melissa Nann Burke shared a statement from Stevens’ chief of staff, Justin German, who claimed that he and the team were resigning and parting ways with the congresswoman following her support for Rogers. The statement revealed that they were shocked by Stevens’ decision to support the Republican candidate. German wrote:
“As Haley Stevens’ Chief of Staff for eight years, I speak on behalf of our team in wholeheartedly supporting Abdul El-Sayed for Senate. This election is too important to sow division or stand on the sidelines. We are shocked and heartbroken by Congresswoman Stevens’ decision to support Mike Rogers.”
He revealed that many team members, including himself, had decided to resign. He also encouraged voters to support Abdul El-Sayed in the Senate race. German said:
“As of this morning, many members of our team have resigned, including myself. We encourage everyone to exercise their civic duty, vote for Abdul and Democrats up and down the ballot, and stand up for the America we all believe in.”
Bernie Sanders reacted to the statement, saying that the staff members were right to resign. He highlighted their understanding of the Michigan Senate race’s importance, rather than Stevens’ “fragile ego.” On X, he wrote:
“Rep. Haley Stevens’ staff is right to resign in disgust. They understand that the election in Michigan is far more important than Haley’s fragile ego and that all of us must stand together to elect Abdul, defeat Rogers and end the Republican rubber-stamp control of the Senate.”
Chuck Schumer Reacts to Haley Stevens Endorsing Mike Rogers

Minority Leader of the United States Senate Chuck Schumer shared his thoughts on Haley Stevens endorsing Mike Rogers over Abdul El-Sayed. Schumer called it a “despicable betrayal” and claimed that Senate Democrats were united in their support for Abdul El-Sayed in the Michigan Senate race. On X, he had this to say:
“This is a despicable betrayal from Rep. Stevens. Senate Democrats are united in our support for Abdul El-Sayed, because we know he will fight for the economic interests of working families in Michigan, unlike Mike Rogers, who is a tool of Donald Trump and billionaire donors.”
