Pokemon Winds and Waves Just Got a Discouraging Update

The Pokemon World Championships have officially wrapped up, giving fans a packed weekend of competition alongside a surprising amount of news about the franchise, but many fans hoping for a Pokemon Winds and Waves update are understandably disappointed. Worlds has become one of the biggest annual events on the Pokemon calendar, bringing together players from across the world for tournaments while also allowing The Pokemon Company to showcase what is next for the series. With Pokemon Winds and Waves still looming as the next major mainline games, there was plenty of reason to wonder if Worlds 2026 would finally have something to share about it.

Worlds did not exactly come up empty-handed when it came to Pokemon announcements, either. The event featured several pieces of news and updates across the franchise, like saying goodbye to the Pokemon Unite competitive scene, the return of Armored Mewtwo in Pokemon GO, and a brand new Pokemon movie. Yet, there wasn’t anything about Pokemon Winds and Waves.

The Silence Around Pokemon Winds and Waves Speaks Volumes

Because of how far away they are, many fans would not expect some major reveal at Worlds, but an acknowledgment would be within reason. However, Pokemon Winds and Waves did not receive even a small update during Worlds. There was no new trailer, gameplay footage, screenshots, Pokemon reveal, or other meaningful information about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 games. Big or small, nothing. Even with the event providing an opportunity to put the game back in front of fans, The Pokemon Company instead left Pokemon Winds and Waves completely out of the conversation.

This adds credibility to a long-standing Pokemon Winds and Waves rumor that many fans have tried to ignore. Several leakers claimed that there would be no concrete Pokemon Winds and Waves news between Pokemon Day 2026 and 2027, meaning that Pokemon Day 2027 is looking more and more like the next time fans will see the upcoming games. Worlds could have shown the smallest bit of the game, but it did not, indicating that the companies involved may want to keep the games out of the public eye for the time being. It may be discouraging for fans this year, but it does mean Game Freak is probably more focused on finishing the game than marketing it.

Of course, this is not outright confirmation that Pokemon Winds and Waves will remain quiet until 2027. The Pokemon Company could announce something tomorrow, next week, or during another presentation later this year, with a Nintendo Direct rumored for September 10. Companies also frequently keep announcements separated from major events for marketing reasons, so the lack of a Worlds appearance should not be treated as definitive proof of anything, but it heavily leans the news cycle toward 2027.

Worlds was one of the most obvious opportunities remaining this year for Pokemon Winds and Waves to make an appearance, and the game did not even receive a minor update despite other Pokemon news being shared. If the current rumors about a long wait for substantial information are accurate, fans may have to settle in for several more months of silence.
