Pokemon browser game lets fans draft fantasy football teams and play full seasons

Pokemon fans are turning the Pokedex into an NFL-style roster after a new browser game let them build an All-22 lineup and attempt to finish a simulated 17-game season without a loss.

Created by X user ColeThereum, All22pokemon.com initially allowed players to build teams using the original 150 Pokemon. Users can assign each Pokemon to an offensive or defensive position, choose a formation, save their lineup, and play through a full season.

Cole’s launch post quickly gained attention, with X showing more than 724,000 views. The follow-up announcing the 17-0 Challenge passed 1.4 million views after players began sharing their own lineups and debating which Pokemon would make the best quarterback, wide receiver, or defensive lineman.

The game has expanded rapidly since its launch.

From one lineup to a full fantasy league

The simulator now includes Pokemon from every generation, 3-4 and 4-3 defensive schemes, slot receivers, kickers, retro sprites, and a limit of three Legendary Pokemon per lineup.

Cole also added a 151 Challenge using only the original Kanto Pokedex, a leaderboard for players to post their best runs, and a separate fantasy football mode.

That mode allows multiple players to take part in a snake draft, with customizable pick timers, public or private rooms, computer-controlled teams, and simulated seasons. Players can also draft with friends and watch their teams compete head to head.

The original challenge has proven difficult. Cole said his best run was initially 10-7, while another update showed him reaching 13-4 after being forced to use Misdreavus at quarterback.

The format is now spreading beyond the original website. X user Scott Maran posted Pokemon combine statistics that converted character stats into football measurements, including 40-yard dash times and bench press scores. The post earned more than 485,000 views, with fans debating whether Alakazam’s speed and intelligence would make it an unfair quarterback.

Another viral post showed a Pokemon football game concept with playable teams, passing plays, defensive assignments, and a scoreboard. That post passed 154,000 views as users continued imagining what a full Pokemon sports universe could look like.

All22pokemon.com is a fan project and is not affiliated with Nintendo, Game Freak, or The Pokemon Company.
