Pillsbury’s new Short King Sandwich Shoppe sells a sandwich over 8 inches tall

Pillsbury is opening a sandwich shop in Los Angeles with 8-inch-tall sandwiches, thanks to a new collaboration between Pillsbury and Chain.

Baking giant Pillsbury has partnered with Chain, an American food and pop-culture company founded by The Office star B.J. Novak, which often launches experimental dining and entertainment popups.

For this collaboration, Chain has taken Pillsbury’s traditional biscuits and transformed them into oversized, elaborate sandwiches, to be sold from a limited-time store.

The sandwich is as tall as the Pillsbury Doughboy

A press release revealed that The Short King Sandwich Shoppe, inspired by the Pillsbury Doughboy, is open at the Westfield Topanga shopping centre in Los Angeles from October 8 through to November 6.

Its menu includes the Doughboy Deluxe, an 8.75-inch-tall sandwich, stacked with breakfast sausage, egg, fried chicken, peach hot honey, pimento cheese and cinnamon-baked apples. Their social media posts have said that the sandwich is as tall as Poppin’ Fresh himself.

“Last year, we started making our biscuits with more of what people love – more flaky layers for more delicious possibilities,” said Maria Carolina Comings, Vice President and Business Unit Director for Pillsbury at General Mills, in a statement.

“The Short King Sandwich Shoppe is a celebration of that ‘more’ mindset, teaming up with Chain to show just how much you can do with a Pillsbury biscuit in a way that’s playful, unexpected and unmistakably Pillsbury.”

The menu also includes the Rise & Shine brunch burger which combines sausage, egg, cheese and habanero hot sauce; the Peachy Keen Clucker with chicken, hot honey, Hatch chilli pimento; and the Sweet Reign dessert sandwich with cinnamon-baked apple and clotted cream.
