Resident Evil fans should mark their calendars for two releases that are on the way for September 2026. Resident Evil has had a busy 2026, with Resident Evil Requiem launching earlier this year to rave reviews and Resident Evil Veronica officially revealed for release in 2027. With 2026 marking the 30th anniversary of the Resident Evil franchise, it’s only fitting that fans have been treated to both a new game and the confirmation of what’s coming next.
And the thing is, the Resident Evil 30th anniversary celebrations aren’t over. While there are no new major Resident Evil video game releases coming in 2026, the franchise will continue to get releases in other mediums. In fact, there are two new Resident Evil releases coming later this month that fans will want to keep an eye on, with one set to release on September 18 and the other releasing on September 29.
When is the Resident Evil Movie Coming Out?
First up is the Resident Evil movie by Zach Cregger. The Resident Evil movie takes some liberties with the source material by changing the year and season that the Raccoon City outbreak takes place, but it looks like it will be a faithful recreation of what it’s like to actually play a Resident Evil game — just in movie form. Cregger has an impressive track record after hits like Barbarian and Weapons, and even if his take on Resident Evil turns out to be bad, it would likely still be the best movie the franchise has seen by miles.
The Resident Evil movie is the biggest new RE release dropping this month, but there’s more to come on September 29. On that day, Titan Comics is releasing a Resident Evil: Death Island comic book adaptation. Death Island, for the uninitiated, is the latest installment in the long-running series of Resident Evil CG movies. Death Island is notable for bringing some of the franchise’s most popular characters together in a single story, with Leon, Jill, Claire, Chris, and Rebecca all featured prominently. The Death Island movie was well-received by fans, and so here’s hoping that the comic book is as well.
Beyond the Resident Evil movie and the Death Island comic, RE fans will also want to keep an eye on the upcoming Capcom Spotlight. The next Capcom Spotlight takes place on Wednesday, September 16 at 7:00am PT as part of Tokyo Game Show, and it’s possible that the event will be used to show off more future Resident Evil projects. It would be awesome if Resident Evil Veronica were to make another appearance, especially since there’s still a lot we don’t know about how the remake is changing up the original game, but fans should keep their expectations in check.
Thanks to leaks from reputable sources, we know of the future Resident Evil projects that will come after Veronica. If the leaks are accurate, Resident Evil Requiem will be getting substantial DLC in 2027, and the Resident Evil Zero remake will be released in 2028 or later. Resident Evil 10 is said to be in development, and Capcom has apparently started working on a second remake of the original game as well. While franchise fans wait for news on future releases, they can look forward to the Resident Evil movie on September 18 and the Death Island comic on September 29.
