Mick Gordon is finally playing the Doom soundtrack live with an entire band and orchestra

Mick Gordon is preparing to rip and tear through the Doom soundtrack live with a full band and orchestra for the first time.

The Australian composer will headline RADAR Festival 2027 in Manchester, England, with a full-length performance dedicated to his work on the iconic shooter franchise.

Gordon previously played a shortened Doom medley at The Game Awards in 2016. However, the upcoming concert will be his first complete production featuring a live band, orchestra and the “Doom Machine,” his custom-built instrument used to help create the games’ brutal sound.

RADAR billed the performance as a world first in its announcement on Instagram, stressing that Gordon himself will be performing the score.

“This isn’t a DJ set. It isn’t a tribute,” the festival said. “Mick has never performed this music live like this. Until now.”

Gordon’s industrial metal soundtrack helped define 2016’s Doom and its 2020 sequel, Doom Eternal. Tracks including Rip & Tear, BFG Division and The Only Thing They Fear Is You have since become some of the most recognizable pieces of modern video game music.

Speaking to GameSpot, Gordon revealed that he had been trying to create a full Doom concert for years.

“I’ve been trying for a number of years to get this thing off the ground,” he said. “Then out of the blue Joe [James, RADAR Festival organizer] came to me with a really awesome opportunity through RADAR.”

Festival organizer Joe James said the production team is considering fire, screens and projection mapping to make the show as spectacular as possible.

RADAR Festival 2027 will run from July 30 to August 1 in Manchester. Super Early Bird tickets go on sale Friday, August 7, with fans able to register through the festival’s website.
