Mexican officials arrested a suspected cartel leader for allegedly orchestrating a hit on Váleria Marquez, a famous TikToker.
Ramón Ángel Álvarez Ayala, a cartel leader, was arrested on July 30, 2026, by Mexican officials for being involved in killing Váleria Márquez last year. Álvarez Ayala is also known as “El R-1” and allegedly ordered a hit on the 23-year-old TikToker.
The prevailing theory shared by officials is that Francisco, son of the cartel leader, asked his father to kill Márquez as an act of revenge. On May 13, 2025, a gunman disguised himself as a delivery rider and opened fire at Márquez.

TikToker Valeria Márquez Was Assassinated by a Cartel Leader’s Gunman
Mexican officials claim that Álvarez Ayala has ties to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and the main leader of the Los Rs. As a prominent figure in the cartel, Álvarez Ayala had access to assassins. The gunman went into Márquez’s salon at Zapopan and surveyed the area first. Pretending to work as a delivery rider, the gunman asked the TikToker to confirm her identity before shooting.
During Márquez’s livestream, she was joking about her life being in danger. Omar Garcia Harfuch, the Mexican Public Safety Officer, revealed that Francisco and the TikToker were in a relationship. However, the relationship went sour and revealed Francisco would often threaten her life. A few days after Márquez’s death, a note was found in the crime scene along with a bouquet.

Álvarez Ayala is no stranger to orchestrated hits, especially after he was also linked to the assassination of Carlos Manzo, a former Uruapan mayor. At the moment of writing, the gunman and Francisco are still on the run, and Mexican officials are still conducting their investigations.
