Metallica frontman James Hetfield recently shared his thoughts on celebrities discussing their political opinions. The popular heavy metal band is currently on its M72 World Tour, with shows lined up at the Las Vegas Sphere through October and November 2026 and even into early 2027.

At a recent concert, Hetfield thanked fans for coming to the shows. He also said Metallica is unlike other entertainers who “influence” fans with their agenda. He claimed that their “agenda is love, energy, and heavy music.” At the band’s Life Burns Faster residency at the Sphere, Hetfield had this to say:

“We’re grateful for that, your travels, the money you spent, the time it took. Thanks for coming to celebrate with us. And, I just gotta say, Metallica is not here like some other entertainers to influence you with their ********, okay? We are here to forget about all the outside ****. Metallica’s agenda is love, energy, and heavy music, baby.”

It’s unclear who the “entertainers” are, as James Hetfield refrained from naming anyone in his speech. However, his message was clear: the band has no agenda beyond playing their music.

In a 2017 interview with La Tercera, Metallica frontman James Hetfield talked about Donald Trump. The interview was held in April 2017, during Trump’s first term. When asked if he had an opinion about him, Hetfield said he would prefer to keep it to himself and not reveal it. Claiming that he ‘hates politics,’ the singer noted that it divides people. He also said he preferred to stay out of topics that tend to polarize people. He said:

“Everyone has one, but I keep mine to myself. I’m an artist, a singer who plays guitar in a band. I hate politics, I don’t want to talk about politics, it separates people, and I want to connect them through music. I prefer to stay out of all that because it polarizes people. If I say ‘I love Trump’ or ‘I hate Trump,’ someone might say, ‘Then I don’t like his music anymore,’ which is really silly.”
