KFC left baffled by KFC China’s viral Oreo chicken burger with vanilla and cocoa sauces

KFC has been left baffled by its Chinese division’s viral Oreo chicken burger, which features black cookie-style buns, Oreo mashed potatoes, and two sweet sauces for dipping fried chicken.

The fast-food giant’s main X account appeared just as confused as everyone else after discovering what KFC China had created.

As previously reported by Dexerto, the Oreo Original Recipe Chicken Burger launches across China on August 28.

It features an Original Recipe chicken thigh fillet and lettuce between two black, Oreo-flavored bread buns. The sandwich is topped with mashed potatoes blended with crushed Oreo cocoa pieces.

Promotional images describe the burger as a collision of sweet and savory flavors, with the crispy chicken, soft potatoes, and cocoa crumbs creating several different textures.

KFC China is also releasing what it calls its first sweet fried chicken “companion sauces.” Customers can dip their chicken in either a white vanilla-flavored sauce or a thick black cocoa-flavored sauce.

Each container holds 30g, while promotional material advertises the pair for 2.5 yuan, equivalent to roughly $0.35 USD.

KFC reacts to China’s Oreo chicken burger

The burger quickly went viral after images spread outside China, with a post from Dexerto attracting more than 24 million views.

When My Mixtapez shared the announcement, KFC responded with a reaction GIF of Ice Cube and wrote: “us looking at KFC China.”

The account later replied directly to Dexerto with another confused GIF, writing: “us to KFC China.”

KFC followed up the next morning by quote-posting the burger alongside a blunt message for its overseas counterpart: “KFC CHINA guys.”

The unusual sandwich reverses the brands’ previous collaboration. Earlier in August, KFC and Oreo released fried chicken-flavored cookies featuring savory creme inspired by the Colonel’s Original Recipe.

Oreo has been experimenting with unconventional flavors elsewhere, too. In the US, the company recently unveiled Chicken & Waffles, Banana Pudding, and Deep Fried Oreo cookies as part of a fan vote.

KFC has not announced plans to bring its Oreo chicken burger or sweet dipping sauces outside China, and judging by the American account’s reaction, it doesn’t seem likely.

However, that’s not to say that other branches haven’t ramped up the absurdity of menu items. KFC Canada recently unveiled a brand-new Flamin’ Hot Cheetos menu, and it even has a wild Cheetos Dirty Soda, too.

In Australia, the chain even unleashed fried chicken-flavored toothpaste and gravy gelato in the UK.
