Joey Chestnut has set a new world record at the World Pancake Eating Championship, eating 40 pancakes in 10 minutes in Williamsburg, Virginia on September 26.
It was the first pancake eating contest of his 21-year career, and his first competitive appearance in Virginia.
He beat the previous record of 35 pancakes set by Geoff Esper at the inaugural contest in 2025, according to Major League Eating.
Chestnut had predicted a record going into the contest, telling WYDaily that finding “that perfect rhythm of breathing and biting, chewing and swallowing” would be key.
Max Stanford finished second with 28 pancakes and Nick Wehry took third on 27, with Oji and Sudo rounding out the top five on 23ÂĽ lbs and 20Âľ lbs.
The win earned Chestnut $2,500 from a $5,000 prize purse at the second annual Williamsburg Pancake Festival.
Chestnut held 55 world records in competitive eating going into the contest, and now adds pancakes to the mountain of foods he has conquered.
It came exactly one week after he won the World Poutine Eating Championship in Toronto, where he ate 21ÂĽ pounds in 10 minutes.
